"How do you compare Europe shows to the fall?"

Well, to be brief, just in terms of jams, I think they got a lot more aggressive in the fall - they lose the upbeat rollicking Pigpen jams & focus on more mind-melting stuff, so there's kind of a dark, heavy feel to the late '72 jams - whereas the Europe '72 jams have maybe a sweeter, friendlier tone.
There's the flip-side too: there are some nights in fall '72 they don't get any intensity going & just kind of lazily meander in the jam for a while. Whereas almost every Europe '72 show is "on."
Then I guess you could say there's some increasing jazziness post-Europe too, since you get a lot of those Phil/Bill interludes & more bass solos.

Thanks. I think I see that. They seemed to get less 'bouncy' or 'boingy' to me as the 70s went on. When PP left, I think it just accelerated the process.
